Runner names on the results pages

This is the big one, so it goes first. The results archive publishes finishing data for every Stone Steps race it has records for, going back to 2003. For each finish that means a name, the finish time, the distance, the placing, and where the timing sheet recorded them, an age, a gender category, and a home city and state.

That information comes from the race's own timing results, which have always been published. Race results are public the way a finish-line clock is public. The archive exists because two decades of them had been lost, and runners kept asking for them.

If you would rather not appear, say so and you will be removed. Email rd@stonesteps50k.com with the name and the year. There is no form to fill in and no reason to give. Your result stays in the race's own records, it just stops being on this website.

The contact form

When you send a message through the contact page, the site stores it so that it cannot be lost if the email fails. What gets saved is exactly this:

• Your name, email address, subject and message, as you typed them.
• The date and time the message arrived.
• Your browser's user agent string, which says what browser and device you used.
• A two letter country code, worked out from your connection. Not a city, not an address.

It is stored in the race's own database on Cloudflare, and it is used for one thing: replying to you. It is never sold, never shared, and never added to a mailing list.

The form is protected from spam bots by Cloudflare Turnstile. Turnstile is shown your IP address so it can judge whether you are a robot. The site does not store your IP address.

How visits are counted

Page visits are measured with Google Analytics. It does set cookies on your device, named _ga and _ga_followed by a stream id, so a return visit is recognised as the same person rather than a new one. It records which pages get opened, roughly what part of the world the visit came from, and what kind of device was used. It is used to see whether people can find the course description and the results, nothing more.

It is not used for advertising, and the numbers are not sold or handed to anyone beyond Google's own processing. If you would rather not be counted, block cookies for this site in your browser settings, or use any tracker-blocking extension. The site works exactly the same either way.

The course map

The 3D course map draws its aerial imagery from the United States Geological Survey and its terrain from a public elevation tile service. Loading those tiles means those servers see your IP address, the same as any image on any website. The race has no account with either and gets nothing back from them.

Leaving this site

Registration and results are handled by RunSignUp, and the race also has a Facebook group. Those are other companies' websites with their own privacy policies. Once you click through, this policy stops applying and theirs starts.

What never happens

• Nothing is sold to anybody, ever.
• There is no advertising on this site and no ad-tracking pixels.
• There is no newsletter, so there is no list to be added to.
• No account, no login, no password. There is nothing here to sign up for.
